Without sugarcoating or softening a word, the Chennai-born songstress will drop a vulnerable truth in one breath then casually muse about wanting to skip that house party, in the next.

But don't be mistaken by the smooth vocals - she is just at home on a dynamic Hip-Hop record with a slew of rappers like the upcoming multi-artiste project "DESAM - One Sky". Whether channeling sensuality such as in the Rolling Stone premiered "3AM" or lifting your spirits with records like "KAALAM",  she moves between moods with intention and ease.

With a mellifluous flow of sound and story, LAYA aims for her music to spread joy and to serve as a therapeutic experience. Her writing is unapologetically honest with tracks unfolding like a narrative chapter from a beloved book. To her, melodies should feel like a warm embrace on the rainiest days, and she wraps her compositions in velvet layers of lush harmonies. LAYA aspires to keep honing her lyricism in a manner that would consistently relate to her audience. With each move, she strengthens this connection to listeners.

With a natural command of rhythms that arises from the 27 years of rigorous professional Bharathanatyam (Indian Classical Dance) training, she effortlessly carves intricate and thundering rhythmic patterns when the music calls for it. As a profficient vocal-arranger, she has trained various colleges for popular cultural events and music. Beyond the studio and stage, she was also a popular national-level Radio Jockey and has enjoyed exploring rendering vocals for film soundtracks.

LAYA is currently an in-house artist of Singaporean-label AKASHIK founded by award-winning artist LADY KASH.
